Puppy Tips

bullet

Start Brushing NOW!

bullet

Do not teach your puppy that it's fun to bite the brush!

bullet

Be gentle but INSISTENT.

bullet

Do NOT allow your puppy to bite you, other dogs, or children.

bullet

Recognise a temper tantrum.  (screaming, crying, biting for just light brushing or holding a paw for example)

bullet

Establish a routine.  Same area of the home, same time of day, same leg to start.

bullet

Do Not allow your pup to be the boss!

bullet

If he runs away when he sees the brush, put him on a leash and carry the brush during training time.

bullet

See your groomer after his last set of shots (around three months).

bullet

TAKE A PUPPY CLASS!

bullet

Potty Train.

bullet

Reward good behaviour with love, NOT treats.

bullet

Consoling a pup who is misbehaving REINFORCES bad behaviour!

bullet

Leash train your pup.

bullet

Be the Alpha in your home.

bullet

Socialize your pup with other dogs, people and children.

bullet

Consider Crate Training.

bullet

Get him used to loud noises like the vacuum.

bullet

When you come to the groomer, hand him over CALMLY.  If YOU are stressed, HE will be stressed!
